L264 Sultan Pleco Full Description

The L264 Sultan Pleco (Leporacanthicus joselimai) is one of the most attractive and highly sought-after plecos in the freshwater aquarium hobby. Native to the fast-flowing Rio Tapajós river system in Brazil, this species belongs to the armored catfish family known for their powerful appearance, unique body patterns, and strong personalities.

L264 is famous for its dark gray to charcoal-colored body covered with bold black leopard-like spots and beautifully edged fins that often display white, cream, or golden highlights. Its elongated body shape, large fins, and distinctive “vampire pleco” teeth give it a rare prehistoric appearance that makes it a centerpiece fish in large aquariums.

Unlike many common plecos, the Sultan Pleco remains moderately sized, usually reaching around 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) in captivity. This manageable size, combined with its striking pattern and active behavior, makes it one of the most desirable plecos among collectors and advanced aquarists.

Natural Habitat

To keep L264 healthy, a spacious aquarium with strong filtration and excellent oxygenation is recommended. They thrive in warm tropical water with stable conditions and moderate to strong water flow.

This species is intelligent, hardy, and active once acclimated properly. Because of their territorial behavior, multiple hiding spots should be provided if keeping more than one pleco.
